As the owner of Houston’s premier party store, I am all about celebrations. And one of the most important celebrations, is the celebration of life! This doesn’t just involve parties and fun, it’s about giving back and making a difference to people in our community who could use a little brightness in their lives. Over the past year, we’ve become inspired by the organization, The Faris Foundation and have assisted them in their mission to improve the lives of children diagnosed with cancer. Since September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, we’ve decided to support the Faris Foundation’s Art is My Life program by hosting an Art Supply Drive the final week of the month, from Saturday September 21 through Sunday September 29 at both our Rice Village and Tanglewood store locations.
Here’s a little background on the organization: The namesake of the Faris Foundation, Faris D. Virani, was a lover of art throughout his life and was particularly connected to the arts during his journey with Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. The official color of Childhood Cancer awareness is gold, which is why the Faris Foundation exclaims Faris’ immortal words, “Let there be GOLD” for the month of September.
In Faris’ honor, we are pleased to accept new, child friendly art supplies which will be donated to the Faris Foundation’s Art Is My Life program, a proud partner of Texas Children’s Hospital. In addition to art supply donations, our guests are also invited to make a monetary donation with their regular purchases – all donated proceeds will benefit the Faris Foundation the week of the drive.
I was particularly moved by this organization because I have my own little artists at home and see firsthand the importance of making art accessible in the lives of young people. We hope y’all are able to come out, shop around, and donate to this worthy cause.
